Physical Education & Sports

At Santiago College, we believe that physical education and sports are a transformative experience that drives the development of our students and complements their education.

Composed of a team of 21 professionals, the Physical Education and Sports Department promotes a healthy lifestyle, personal growth, and the values that define us as a community. Through movement, we cultivate confidence, commitment, teamwork, and resilience: essential skills for life.

Physical Education: Learning through movement
From PK to Senior, our students participate in classes designed to learn through play, exploration, and self-challenge. Our programs meet the requirements of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the national curriculum, integrating movement as a key tool for learning and the development of transferable skills across multiple contexts that transcend school life.

Sports: Competitive spirit, the heart of community
Our sports activities go beyond the classroom, offering students the opportunity to compete, grow, and proudly represent Santiago College. After-school sports activities are aimed at students from 3rd to 12th Grade and encourage each student to explore and participate in at least three different sports throughout the year through ABSCh activities (Chilean British Schools Association), but also seeking competitive development through selections in disciplines such as football, hockey, rugby, volleyball, athletics, basketball, and swimming.

Each season, activities organized by ABSCh or tournaments in which Santiago College participates bring exciting challenges and new goals, aiming to showcase the talent, discipline, and passion of our students through sporting achievements.

In both physical education classes and sports activities, we have excellent infrastructure, including a sports field with facilities such as a gym for basketball and volleyball, a swimming pool, two natural grass fields for rugby/football, and two synthetic turf fields for hockey. These facilities enable full development across different disciplines and enhance the performance of our athletes, supported by passionate teachers with great expertise in various sports.

This year, we will hold two voluntary sports tours to Argentina, involving students from 8th, 9th, and 10th grades. These international experiences aim to foster competition but also to open doors to the world, connecting our students with other cultures, teams, and sporting realities, which will help them return to our community with higher standards in sports practice.

At Santiago College, physical education and sports are not just subjects but a way of shaping well-rounded individuals, fostering community, and building the future.

The infrastructure of our Sports Campus includes the following:

– 2 natural grass fields (soccer and rugby)

– 2 synthetic field hockey fields (one water-based pitch, one sand-dressed pitch)

– 4 multipurpose sports courts with asphalt surface

– 4 multipurpose sports courts with synthetic grass

– 2 multipurpose sports courts for IS and LS students.

– 1,500 m虏 gymnasium with 3 multi-purpose courts.

– Runner with 2 tracks for long jump (official measures)

– Semi-Olympic swimming pool 25 x 12.5 m, 1.40 m deep.

Physical Education and Sports are fundamental to the healthy development of our students. These programs promote an active lifestyle, instill values such as teamwork and perseverance, and help build self-confidence while fostering a strong school spirit.
