Lower school at Santiago College corresponds to grades 3, 4 and 5. During these three years, students continue developing their knowledge, skills and values in the PYP framework in a bilingual context. Our responsibility at Santiago College is not only to help children grow academically, but also to ensure that they feel seen, valued, challenged, and supported every day in our community.<\/span><\/p>\n

At this age their primary task is the achievement of a sense of cognitive, physical, and social competence. Thus, our core objectives in Lower School are to develop autonomy and responsibility, while nurturing a true sense of student agency and self-management skills. By empowering children to take ownership of their own learning journey and regulate their growth, we ensure they are fully prepared to transition to Middle School and a more demanding IB academic program, the Middle Years Programme (MYP).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We love all the energy of our Lower School students, and it is a true joy to accompany them in their growth\u2014guiding them through their enthusiasm, their creativity, and even their conflicts in the framework of our Student Charter and our Code of Conduct. Our Lower School team \u2014composed of teachers, psychologists, psychopedagogists, coaches, a curriculum coordinator, and tutors\u2014brings important strengths and insights to our community. By listening carefully, communicating openly, and working together with families, we create the conditions for every child to thrive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As the Principal of Lower School, I am committed to spending time where learning happens\u2014in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, performances, and at community events. I have been part of this wonderful community for a long time, first as an English teacher for eight years, and since returning in 2009 as Principal. I look forward to continuing to get to know our students and families, and to learning alongside this extraordinary community.<\/span><\/p>\n
