Spanish is present as the language of the institution&#8217;s country of origin and is complemented by the teaching of English, which is often referred to as the global language, thus allowing students to become global citizens. Since language is fundamental to learning, thinking and communicating, mastering two languages enriches personal development by allowing students to access different cultures and perspectives, fostering an international mindset.<\/p>\n<p>In Middle School (6th to 9th grade), the English course follows the MYP Language and Literature program of the International Baccalaureate and incorporates the objectives of the Chilean curriculum of the Ministry of Education. In High School (grades 10-12), all students must take one of the following DP English courses: English A Literature or English A Language and Literature (native-level courses), or English B HL (the IB DP higher level language acquisition course), after which, in their final year, they obtain the IB certificate in one of these subjects.<\/p>\n<p>Students develop skills such as:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">Critically analyzing a variety of visual, written, and multimodal texts, asking questions to deepen their understanding.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Listening, reading and watching actively; and purposefully speaking, writing, and presenting in a variety of contexts to articulate thoughts as they construct and reconstruct meanings to understand the world around them.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Developing critical, creative and personal approaches to study and analyzing literary and non-literary texts.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Using and constructing visuals and multimedia in a variety of situations and for multiple purposes and audiences.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Interacting with texts corresponding to different historical periods and diverse cultures.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Reading, discussing and answering (orally or in writing) different types of texts and genres, reflecting on how conventions and styles create meaning.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Speaking, writing and presenting for different purposes and for different audiences.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Appling linguistic and literary concepts and skills in a variety of authentic contexts.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scollege.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/web-ingles-2025.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-60324\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scollege.cl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/web-ingles-2025.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"773\" height=\"479\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Head of area: Michelle Duggan<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santiago College is a bilingual school.
