The spirit that moves the Teleton is one of the most important values that every human being should feel and live. That is why Santiago College not only is committed to this solidarity crusade every year, but also motivates in its students the importance of helping at all times. For this reason, a group of 11th graders and all of 7th grade actively supported the Teleton foundation during the entire year, sharing activities with children in rehabilitation. These students set out ways to work with clear objectives and goals to meet; they took this work as a real project to carry out. The first activity in which they participated was a special training, where they received an induction needed before making contact with the children. They worked with different people, especially in developing empathy, the consciousness of being socially responsible and above all respectful towards others. The 11th grade, for a second time, got together to work in the production and distribution of the material needed for this Teleton, which would be sent all over Chile. After this, they participated in the meeting, “Teleton Friends”, where they had the opportunity to share with the children, doing different recreational activities. Daniela González, from the Junior class, tells us about the meaning of the name given to this meeting: “We are all the same, we do not feel that we are above them and that’s why we can create bonds of friendship” This past November 19th, Upper and High school students recorded a video at the Cerro San Cristóbal, where representing Santiago College they encouraged people to participate in the Teleton. Those of us who accompanied in this activity, had the opportunity to get to know the group of happy students, who in spite of having tests the same day of the closing of the campaign, they were happy to be part of these activities. These students teach and show that donating should not be the final objective, but the active participation in social projects, with the commitment and enthusiasm of knowing that you are helping others from the heart. Also and like always, our school carried out different activities for the campaign this year. We not only collect an important amount of money, but also take the opportunity to teach the smaller children and all the students in general, that being able to help others is a privilege and that it must be constant. First we had an assembly for each school sector, which was led by the Teleton group who worked in motivating the students to participate actively on November 30th and December 1st. They taught us this year’s slogan, the children repeated it very enthusiastically, dancing and they took pictures with Teletín, the Teletón 2012 mascot. Pre-Kinder and Kinder did a card and song sale. The students from First grade did their traditional Bake Sale. Second grade sold lemonade and Third, Fourth and Fifth grade organized an excellent and fun Flee Market. Play Group, parents and students, also participated in this campaign with their Cards, Book Markers and other items made with their own hands. The Community and Service Department (CAS), thanks all of the SC community for their support, which allowed us to reach the goal set. We thank Parents, Guardians, Alumni, Administration, Teachers’ Union, Janitors and of course our students, for their enthusiasm and commitment. Also, a very special thanks to Regino Machuca, our beloved driver, who constantly helps in our participation to different social activities that the school is part of.
