Procedure for Application

PRE-K Application process

The Pre-K application process takes place during a three week-long period every year in March. The selection process ends in May

Prerequisites

Parents/guardians must complete the SC application form and submit the following:

  • Birth certificate (original)
  • 2 ID size color photographs with the applicant’s name
  • Application Fee

Children applying to Pre-K must turn four during the year to which they apply (between January 1 and December 31 of that year).

The evaluation process

The evaluation process begins when the Pre-K candidate and his or her parents or guardians visit the Preschool. This visit is meant to help the child get acquainted with the environment in which he/she will be evaluated.

Children will be evaluated in groups of eight. Group members will be selected by age. Each group will consist of a similar number of boys and girls. The evaluation process lasts approximately 40 minutes. The evaluation is not a diagnostic assessment of the candidate, but rather an opportunity to observe milestones that each child should have reached at this stage of his/her personal development in accordance with the school’s requirements.

Pre-selection

Once the results of the evaluations are ready, pre-selection begins. In order to be pre-selected, the child must meet the school’s minimum requirements.

The parents and guardians of candidates who are not pre-selected will be informed of the school’s decision by mail.

Parental Interviews

The parents and guardians of pre-selected candidates will be called to schedule a personal interview at the school. Parents and guardians of current Santiago College students will not be interviewed. The number of parents and guardians interviewed will be greater than the number of vacancies available.

Results

Once the interview process is complete, the Santiago College Admissions Commission will select 130 Pre-K applicants. A wait list and a rejection list will also be generated. The parents or guardians of each child will be informed of the results of the application process at the school in May on the date established in the selection process calendar.

STUDENTS APPLYING TO GRADES 1-10

Applications for Grades 1-10 will be received in August each year.

Prerequisites

Parents/guardians must complete the application form (electronic or print format) and submit the following: :

  • Birth Certificate (original)
  • Transcript covering the past three academic years
  • Please note that overseas applicants' transcripts must be officially legalized by the Chilean Consulate accredited by the host country.
  • A report on the applicant's character and conduct issued by his or her most recent school.
  • 2 ID size color photographs with the name of the applicant
  • All applicants to Grades 1-10 must be proficient in English.

Only applicants who are evaluated or tested will be asked to pay an application fee.

Santiago College generally has a very limited number of available spaces for the following school year. This number will depend on how many students have withdrawn or transferred. The school will pre-select candidates based on the documents provided.

In order to be admitted to Santiago College, the student must take an entrance admission test in English, Math and Spanish. (The Spanish test requirement is waived for students with no command of Spanish). Applicants also are required to sit for an aptitude test administered by our Guidance Department and a personal interview.

Depending on the results of the evaluations, the child’s parents or guardians may be interviewed by the Principal of the school to which they are applying as part of the admissions process.

Students are accepted based on available space and the results of this process.

Applying from overseas

As demand for admission to the school is extremely high, we are not in a position to leave space for candidates who present applications once the regular admissions process has ended. Nevertheless, if there is space for them, students coming from abroad can apply to the school at any time of the year. Please note that the school is closed for summer vacation in January and February.

Competition for admissions is keen, but special consideration is given to qualified students coming from overseas. We appreciate your interest in Santiago College. PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU REQUIRE FURTHER INFORMATION. OUR Admissions Office IS OPEN Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
